On October 22, 2005, Brooke and I attended the Summerville Tour of Homes. Every year, residents of Summerville, an "upscale" section of Augusta that contains some of the city's finest historic homes, open their doors to the public. Different homes are showcased each year. The tour is a fundraising effort for the Summerville Neighborhood Association, and it's rather expensive; fortunately, I won free tickets from WJBF.
1434 Heath Street, home of Russ and Melanie Lumpkin. Note the peak on the roof of the porch gable; according to the guidebook, "This distinctive shape is reminiscent of Oriental temple roofs and was used frequently on Craftsman homes on the west coast." Yeah, I didn't know anyone used the term "Oriental" anymore, either. Summerville Tour of Homes 2005, Augusta, Georgia
